PARADOX
– THE NEW GENERATION OF CRYOGENIC CHAMBERS.
REQUEST INFORMATIONThe PARADOX of the cryochamber explained

What if high-end cryogenics suddenly became very simple?
The PARADOX cryogenic chamber combines powerful cooling technology with a particularly simple operating concept. It is designed for use without liquid nitrogen and is powered by a conventional 230 V power connection and natural refrigerant (maintenance-free). There is no need for the complex technical infrastructure required by conventional cryogenic systems.
For operators, this means:
- No external cooling unit required
- No separate technical room required
- low installation effort
- Plug & Play: Set up, connect, start.
With an energy consumption of 2.5–3.5 kWh, the running costs remain manageable. Depending on usage and electricity rates, this results in daily costs of around €10, which is significantly lower than many conventional systems.
What is a cryochamber?
A cryochamber (also known as a whole-body cold chamber) is a specially designed room in which the body is exposed to very low temperatures for a short period of time, usually around 3 to 5 minutes. This procedure is known as whole-body cryotherapy.
The aim of the treatment is to controllably cool the skin, not to completely chill the body. Studies show that lowering the skin temperature to approx. 15–20 °C is sufficient to achieve the desired cold stimulus.
During exposure to cold, the blood vessels initially constrict (vasoconstriction) and then dilate again after application. Many users perceive this physiological reaction as invigorating. In addition, users often report feeling clear and alert after the session.
Cryotherapy is primarily used in the areas of regeneration, performance, and well-being and is carried out under clearly defined, time-limited, and controlled conditions.
Did you know?
Whole-body cryotherapy was originally developed and used in a medical setting, including as a supportive treatment for certain neurological and rheumatological conditions.
Today, cryotherapy is mainly used in the sports, regeneration, and wellness sectors. Many athletes and health-conscious users integrate the cold chamber as part of their regeneration routine and report feeling invigorated after use.
What is the purpose of cryotherapy chamber treatment?
Effect through skin cooling – targeted, controlled, effective.
The aim of cryochamber treatment is to apply a uniform and reproducible cold stimulus through controlled exposure of the skin to cold. The focus is not on achieving the lowest possible air temperature, but rather on targeted reduction of skin temperature.
Technical sources and studies describe that effective cold exposure is achieved when large areas of the skin surface are cooled to around 15–20 °C within a short period of time.
Cryotherapy expert Pat Viroux adds that particularly pronounced physiological reactions are often observed at skin temperatures in the range of approximately 10–15 °C.
The PARADOX cryochamber is designed to achieve precisely these temperature ranges in a controlled, uniform, and reproducible manner—for standardized application under clearly defined conditions.

The future of cryotherapy is here.

The new cryogenic chamber

Scientifically proven: whole-body cold chamber
The whole-body cold chamber has been the subject of numerous clinical studies and systematic reviews. Research shows that brief exposure to extremely low temperatures can trigger measurable physiological adaptation responses in the human body.
- Inflammation: Scientific studies report changes in inflammation-related markers such as hs-CRP after serial applications in healthy adults, indicating a modulation of inflammatory processes. (International Journal of Medical Research, 2024: https://www.i-jmr.org/2024/1/e60942/)
- Sports and exercise: In sports and exercise medicine, controlled studies show that whole-body cold chambers can be associated with a reduction in muscle soreness and improved subjective recovery after intense exercise. (Frontiers in Physiology / PubMed Central, 2017: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC5411446/)
- Chronic pain: Furthermore, clinical studies in people with chronic pain suggest that repeated applications may be associated with a decrease in pain intensity and functional improvements. (Randomized controlled trial, Low Back Pain, 2014: https://www.researchgate.net/publication/266680914)
- Atopic dermatitis: Whole-body cryotherapy has also been scientifically studied for inflammatory skin conditions. A clinical study shows that treatment three times a week in people with atopic dermatitis (neurodermatitis) can be associated with a reduction in itching and an improvement in sleep quality. The authors attribute these effects to cold-induced neuroimmunological adaptation reactions. (Arch Dermatol. 2008;144(6):806–808. doi:10.1001/archderm.144.6.806) Go to article
- Rheumatoid arthritis: Whole-body cryotherapy has been investigated in controlled studies for inflammatory rheumatic diseases. A monocentric, single-blind, randomized controlled study shows that the use of whole-body cold chambers in people with rheumatoid arthritis can be associated with a significant and clinically relevant reduction in pain and disease activity. The study also observed a reduction in pain medication use. The authors discuss that these effects may be due to changes in inflammation-related cytokine levels. (Clinical and Experimental Rheumatology, 2022. doi:10.55563/clinexprheumatol/lrff6k) Go to article
- Abdominal obesity: Whole-body cryotherapy has also been clinically investigated in the context of metabolic changes. A controlled study in menopausal women with metabolic syndrome shows that 20 applications of whole-body cryotherapy for 3 minutes each were associated with a significant reduction in body mass, body mass index, waist circumference, and fat percentage. The changes were particularly pronounced in abdominal and trunk-focused adipose tissue. The authors discuss that these effects could be indirectly mediated by cold-induced hormonal adjustments, including irisin and interleukin-6. The study was conducted without any changes in diet or activity level. (Journal of Clinical Medicine, 2020; 9(9):2797. https://doi.org/10.3390/jcm9092797)

Advantages and technical data of the Paradox cryochamber
The PARADOX cryochamber combines modern cooling technology with particularly easy handling. Thanks to its plug-and-play concept and operation via a conventional 230 V connection, no complex installation or structural modifications are required.
Below you will find an overview of the technical highlights and advantages.
100% electric cooling (without nitrogen)
The cryochamber is fully electric and does not require liquid nitrogen. This ensures uniform, constant cooling throughout the interior – without any risk of nitrogen fumes or cold burns.
An integrated buffer zone efficiently stores the cold and prevents valuable cold air from being lost when entering the chamber. Air circulates continuously through this zone and is evenly distributed into the cabin as soon as the person is inside the chamber. This creates a stable, controlled cold climate throughout the entire application.
Operation is very simple: all you need is a connection to a conventional 230 V power outlet. There is no need for complex installations, regular maintenance, or costly refills.
The powerful cooling technology ensures a stable, controlled cold climate. Thanks to its high cooling power, the desired application temperature remains constant—even during several applications in a row.
Virtually maintenance-free. Easy to use.
The PARADOX cryochamber operates entirely without nitrogen technology. This eliminates the need for refills, tank handling, and special ventilation or safety requirements.
Compared to many other electric cryogenic systems, maintenance requirements are deliberately reduced. While regular, costly maintenance is often required with other systems, the PARADOX is designed as a closed, electric system for low-maintenance operation. There are no costly service intervals with high follow-up costs.
This makes the system particularly attractive for studios, practices, and hotels that value predictable operating costs, high availability, and reliable continuous operation without additional technical effort.
LED lighting system
The integrated LED lighting system provides clear visual guidance for users and creates a high-quality atmosphere in the cryochamber. Different colors indicate the respective status of the application and facilitate orientation:
- Purple: The chamber is ready for operation
- Green: The chamber can be entered or exited
- Blue: The application is running
In addition to functional orientation, the LED lighting emphasizes the modern, futuristic design.
Intuitive self-service control
The PARADOX is designed for self-service. The desired program can be set intuitively and easily via a user-friendly touch display.
A clear, color visualization in combination with special sensor technology ensures that the application runs in a controlled and safe manner. This gives users a reliable, reproducible cooling experience.
Cryo sessions can thus be started and carried out independently – this reduces personnel costs and facilitates operation in everyday studio or practice life.
Safety & Comfort
Several integrated safety systems ensure that every application runs in a controlled and reliable manner. The cryochamber is equipped with an easy-to-open, heated door so that the session can be ended independently at any time.
With a floor space of 1.10 × 1.10 m and an interior height of approx. 2.10 m, the cabin offers sufficient freedom of movement and a pleasant feeling of space for a high level of comfort.
Low operating costs
The cryochamber is characterized by its highly efficient energy consumption. Power consumption is only approx. 2.5–3.5 kWh. Depending on usage and electricity rates, this corresponds to operating costs of around €10 per day.
Compared to conventional systems, this significantly reduces ongoing ancillary costs. This makes everyday calculations easier and helps to ensure that the investment can be amortized economically and predictably.

Frequently asked questions about cryochambers
A cryotherapy session in the PARADOX lasts only a few minutes. After entering the pre-cooled cold chamber, the treatment begins and lasts between 3 and 5 minutes, depending on the selected program.
Colored LED lights and the clear view through the heated glass door help to make the short treatment time pleasant and easy to follow. Once the set time has elapsed, the door opens automatically and the session ends.
The aim of a cryotherapy session is not to set the chamber as cold as possible, but to achieve a controlled cooling of the skin to around 10–15 °C. This temperature range can be set precisely with PARADOX.
Many users describe the cold as tingling – comparable to a very cold winter day, but without the damp cold. The treatment naturally feels intense in the first few seconds, but the body quickly adapts.
Many users report a clear, alert body sensation during the short application time of around three to five minutes. An intense tingling sensation is usually perceived. Immediately after the session, many experience a pleasant feeling of warmth, especially in the outer areas of the body.
The PARADOX cryochamber has an integrated buffer zone in which cold air is temporarily stored. At the start of the treatment, this air is fed into the chamber as a gentle, even air flow from above.
This creates a flat, homogeneous cold stimulus across the entire skin surface – precisely controlled and easy to regulate. The air circulation is designed so that the skin temperature is lowered to the desired range within a short time, without localized cold spots or thermal shock.
This ensures uniform application and contributes to a pleasant, well-tolerated cold experience.
The extent to which skin temperature changes during a cryotherapy session varies from person to person. It depends, among other things, on body composition, blood circulation, muscle mass, and body mass index (BMI).
Studies show that women often cool down faster than men at the skin surface, which is related to differences in muscle mass and blood circulation patterns. In people with a higher fat percentage, skin cooling can accelerate because fatty tissue insulates the body’s internal heat more effectively.
The PARADOX cryochamber offers customizable protocols and variable session durations, allowing operators to respond flexibly to different body types and individual responses – for controlled, personalized cold therapy.
Yes – when used properly, cryotherapy in the PARADOX cryochamber is considered very safe. The chamber operates completely without liquid nitrogen, so there are no risks from nitrogen vapors or cold burns, as can occur with older systems.
The duration of use is deliberately limited to a few minutes and is therefore generally well tolerated by healthy individuals. In addition, the cryochamber is equipped with several safety mechanisms: Integrated sensors continuously monitor the conditions during the session.
If you feel unwell, you can terminate the application yourself at any time – the door can be opened easily by hand. Before the first application, a short health check or questionnaire is usually carried out to rule out any possible contraindications.
Whole-body cryotherapy is performed in minimal clothing so that the cold can act directly on the skin. It is common to wear underwear or swimwear during the treatment.
Sensitive areas of the body such as hands, feet, and ears are specifically protected. You will usually be given gloves, thick socks, or special slippers, as well as a headband or cap.
Please remove jewelry and metal objects before the treatment. It is also important that your skin and hair are completely dry.
This combination of minimal clothing and targeted protection ensures that the cold can be applied in a well-tolerated and controlled manner.
In principle, cryotherapy is generally well tolerated by healthy individuals. However, there are certain contraindications in which its use is not recommended or prior medical consultation is required.
These include in particular:
- Severe cardiovascular diseases, e.g., known heart disease, severely elevated or poorly controlled blood pressure, and relevant cardiac arrhythmias
- Pregnancy
- Severe circulatory disorders
- Hypersensitivity to cold or cold allergies, e.g., pronounced Raynaud’s syndrome
Other exclusion criteria may include acute infections or fever, open wounds, and recent surgery.
If in doubt, always seek medical advice before use. Before the first session, a health assessment or questionnaire is usually carried out to rule out any possible contraindications.
The recommended frequency of cryotherapy depends on individual goals and personal tolerance. In general, the treatment is considered gentle and can be performed regularly in suitable individuals. During performance-oriented training phases, professional athletes sometimes use the cryochamber daily.
For most users, however, several applications per week are sufficient. For regeneration and general well-being, 2–3 sessions per week are often chosen.
It is not so much the individual application that is decisive, but rather the regularity. Continuous applications are usually better tolerated in practice than sporadic individual sessions. Nevertheless, a break of several hours to a day should be taken between applications so that the body can adapt accordingly.
