YOUR INNOVATIVE TRAINING
WITH HYPOXIA
Your MITOVIT® device for hypoxic training
WHAT IS HYPOXIC TRAINING?
The MITOVIT® device for hypoxic training is an innovative training system that has been developed to utilise the health and performance benefits of hypoxia. Hypoxic training, also known as altitude training, is based on the controlled reduction of the oxygen content in the inhaled air, which can cause positive physiological adaptation reactions in the body.
Who can benefit from hypoxic training?
Our hypoxic training is an ideal supplement for people who want to improve their health and ability to recover. Clinics, health centres and wellness facilities also benefit from the innovative technology of the MITOVIT® device.
Our target group therefore includes health-conscious individuals, athletes and professional users in the health and wellness sector who want to benefit from the many advantages of hypoxic training.
How is hypoxic training carried out?
The user lies relaxed and breathes via a mask, alternating between low-oxygen mountain air (9-18%) and oxygen-rich (30%) or normal valley air (21%). The MITOVIT® device simulates heights of 1,200 m to 6,750 m and adjusts to the individual’s level of fitness. An intensive programme that mimics ascent and descent in the mountains is completed in about 40 minutes – without any physical exertion. For optimal results, 10-15 sessions with 2-3 sessions per week are recommended.

MEDICINE NOBEL PRIZE FOR
HYPOXIC RESEARCH
In 2019, the Nobel Prize in Medicine was awarded to the three scientists William Kaelin, Gregg Semenza, and Peter Ratcliffe. They discovered molecular mechanisms that enable cells to measure oxygen levels and determine when adaptive responses are necessary.
Hypoxia, in particular, is believed to contribute to positive reactions that help the body ensure all organs and organ systems receive sufficient oxygen. In his 2012 publication, Gregg Semenza was already able to document the influence of hypoxia on mitochondrial function, demonstrating that under hypoxic conditions, the autophagy of weakened mitochondria is accelerated while the formation of new mitochondria is simultaneously stimulated.

MITOVIT® HYPOXIC TRAINING
MITOVIT® Hypoxic Training takes place in a relaxed, lying-down position in a comfortable setting. The application is perceived as pleasant, with many individuals reporting that they relax or even fall asleep during the session.
Unlike altitude training for athletes, hypoxic training generally does not involve physical activity. To mimic the physiological stimuli of exercise, MITOVIT® Hypoxic Training utilizes a more significantly reduced oxygen concentration. Typically, altitude training for athletes occurs at an elevation of around 2,000 meters, corresponding to an oxygen concentration of approximately 16 %.
Athletes looking to enhance their performance can complement MITOVIT® Hypoxic Training with moderate physical activity, such as cycling or treadmill workouts, to maximize its benefits.

The Fully Automated Hypoxia Test
For Your Individually Optimal Training Settings
The most commonly used hypoxic training programs, featuring a training phase of 5 minutes and a recovery phase of 3 minutes over a duration of approximately 40 minutes, are well-tested and safe. However, individuals respond very differently to oxygen-reduced altitude air. Each person has a unique hypoxic threshold, meaning some individuals experience hemoglobin desaturation earlier than others.
The fully automated hypoxia test included in the MITOVIT® system determines the user’s individual hypoxic threshold during the first session. This process gently and gradually introduces the participant to hypoxia.
The goal is to determine the initial oxygen concentration that results in blood oxygen saturation falling below 90%. Only below this level can the physiological effects of hypoxic training be expected. For individuals with severe exhaustion, pronounced mitochondrial damage, or serious internal medical conditions, reducing oxygen saturation below 90 % at the start is not necessary.

SAFE AND EASY TO USE -
MADE IN GERMANY
The individual undergoing training lies down comfortably on a couch and is provided with a personal breathing mask. During the approximately 40-minute session, they alternate between breathing oxygen-reduced “altitude” air (hypoxia 18–9 %) for 3–5 minutes and oxygen-rich air (hyperoxia 30 %) or normal sea-level air (21 %).
Athletes aiming to enhance their performance should conduct hypoxic training during moderate exercise, such as on an ergometer. Adjust the hypoxia level based on the training condition to 18–13 % oxygen.
For optimal safety during hypoxic training, MITOVIT® uses two pulse oximeters that simultaneously record and compare the SpO2 values.

Benefits of MITOVIT® Hypoxic Training
The MITOVIT® Interval Hypoxic Training system is one of the most advanced altitude training devices on the market. It is user-friendly, allows for quick visual training monitoring, and features integrated real-time HRV measurement to display parasympathetic activity.
In addition to the well-known training modes Hypoxia/Normoxia (IHT) and Hypoxia/Hyperoxia (IHHT), MITOVIT® introduces a groundbreaking innovation that makes hypoxic training even more effective: adaptive hyperoxia. This means that the oxygen level is adjusted in real-time during the training to match your individual needs, optimizing the training effect. And it’s all proudly Made in Germany.

ADVANTAGE OF ADAPTIVE HYPEROXIA
Hypoxia / Normoxia (IHT): Interval Training with Hypoxic and Normoxic Air
Advantage: During the training phase (hypoxia), oxygen saturation quickly drops back into the target training range (below 90 % SpO2) since no oversaturation occurs. This ensures the hypoxic training stimulus is optimally utilized.
Disadvantage: During the recovery phase (normoxia), it takes longer for the initial blood oxygen saturation level to be restored. This means the recovery time is not optimally utilized. Some users may even struggle to regain their pre-training SpO2 levels with normoxia alone.
Hypoxia / Hyperoxia (IHHT): Interval Training with Hypoxic and Hyperoxic Air
Advantage: During the recovery phase (hyperoxia), the initial blood oxygen saturation is quickly restored, making optimal use of the recovery time.
Disadvantage: During the training phase (hypoxia), it takes longer for oxygen saturation to drop back into the target training range (below 90 % SpO2) due to potential oversaturation. This can significantly shorten the effective training time with hyperoxia settings. Additionally, prolonged hyperoxia administration may increase oxidative stress, which could be detrimental for individuals with severe weakness.
Adaptive hyperoxia automatically adjusts the oxygen concentration, combining the benefits of both methods, avoiding their drawbacks, increasing the efficiency of hypoxic training, enhancing training success, minimizing oxidative stress, and improving user satisfaction.
At the beginning of the recovery phase, hyperoxic air is administered until the blood oxygen saturation reaches 99% (adjustable between 93% and 99% SpO2). This ensures the recovery time is optimally utilized.
For the remaining recovery phase, normoxic air is breathed to prevent oxygen oversaturation. This ensures that the subsequent training phase is not unnecessarily shortened. The blood oxygen saturation quickly drops back into the target training range, allowing the hypoxic stimulus to be fully utilized. Additionally, oxidative stress is minimized while ensuring rapid oxygen saturation, as hyperoxia is only applied until the set SpO2 level is reached.
